KUCHING: AZAM Young Souls (AYS), a network of Kuching young volunteers, has pledged to support the Sarawak government’s efforts towards a green economy.
Bearing a new theme, the AYS will be more geared towards global citizenship and sustainable development goals.
Its chairman Mohamad Ariff Irwani Azahari, in announcing the new theme, said AYS aims to bring basic knowledge and understanding of green economy concepts to the grassroots communities.
“We want to help the state government by empowering rural communities to understand the concept of green economy.
“Our focus is on educating people at their level of understanding without overwhelming them with complex technical jargon,” he said during his welcoming speech at the breaking-of-fast event with AYS at a local hotel here last night (April 9).
In light of this, AYS plans to reach out to rural communities through a variety of channels, including community meetings, workshops, and educational materials.
They hope to promote practical and tangible steps that individuals and communities can take to reduce their environmental impact and improve their quality of life.
“We don’t have to have an expert on the matter. We don’t have to talk about big things,” Ariff added.
AYS’s commitment in supporting the Sarawak government’s green economy initiatives reflects a growing trend towards sustainable development.
As more organisations and individuals recognise the urgent need to address climate change and environmental degradation, grassroots efforts like those of AYS will play an increasingly important role in driving positive change.
Towards this end, the chairman hoped that the members could become local youth icons and make AYS one of the leading youth organisations in Sarawak and internationally.
