SIBU: Young voters (Undi18) play a critical role in defining the country’s direction and future, particularly in Sarawak, said Education, Innovation and Talent Development Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee.
This group would be able to contribute towards a more secure future, he said at the SUARA Networking Project dinner here over the weekend.
“A total of 2,748 new voters have been registered from January 1, 2022.
“The data is obtained from the automatic registration of 18-year-old voters.
“This figure is quite substantial and those between the age of 18 to 20 will go to the polls for the first time in the next 15th General Election (GE15),” the Nangka assemblyman explained.
Accordingly, he reminded the young voters not to abuse their power and rights.
He reminded them to use the power and rights in their hands to the best of their ability to fortify the direction and future of Sarawak.
“We in Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will create a youth wing for the Undi18 group which we consider as a revolution in the next election arena.
“We will highlight this set to be more aware of current issues and related matters,” he said.
He assured that this group would be empowered and given priority by the state government in the efforts to pool and develop their talents.
He emphasised that his portfolio in the cabinet was also related to talent development which included empowering this group to continue to be educated and exposed to a higher level.
“We need these people to work with the government and we always listen to your voice,” he assured.
