SIBU: The Magistrate’s Courts here yesterday (Mar 28) slapped a 29-year-old man with total fines of RM8,100, in default 12 months’ jail, over seven charges of purchasing illegal lottery tickets.
Thomas Kiu Chyl Wei from Rantau Panjang pleaded guilty to all the charges heard in two separate courts.
All the offences were committed in a premises at Jalan Wong King Huo at about 5.10pm on Mar 4.
The court was told that Kiu was found to have purchased seven six-digit lottery numbers illegally.
He was charged with the offences under Section 9(1) Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 (289), which provides for a fine up to RM5,000 or six months’ jail or both for each charge.
Kiu paid the fines.
