Youth fined RM3,000 for illegal online gambling

SIBU: The Magistrates’ court here today (Oct 15) fined a youth RM3,000, in default four months’ jail, after he pleaded guilty to being involved in illegal online gambling.

Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar meted out the sentence on Yii Hee Hua, 24 for committing the offence under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which is punishable with a fine not more than RM50,000 and imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years.

Yii was arrested at a house in Jalan Salim here at about 3.45pm on Oct 2 after he was found to be involved in illegal online gambling.

According to the facts of case, at about 3.45pm on Oct 2, a police party from Criminal Investigation Department raided and inspected a house in Jalan Salim.

Upon arrival, they met a male person who was later identified as the accused.

During inspection, a mobile phone suspected to be used for the purpose of reload credit for illegal online gambling was seized and the accused placed under arrest.

Police investigation revealed that the seized mobile phone contained a website which is used to reload credit to players for the purpose of online gambling.
