KUCHING: The Sarawak Youth Venture Fund (SYVF) is now open to applications from talented youth who wish to go into the arts and cultural fields.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that the state government has allocated RM5 million for that purpose.
The application form can be obtained from the ministry and all applications will have to go through a selection process vetted by two committees; the Special Committee and Technical Committee.
“It is not a scholarship but an outright gift ranging from RM5,000 up to RM20,000. The approving committee will assess all the applications and determine whether the applicants are eligible or not,” he said.
He made this known to reporters after officiating at ‘TEDx Kenyalang: Shine for Others 2019’ held at Waterfront Hotel here, yesterday.
Karim who is also Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister said there would be an addition of RM4 million for the fund next year to being the total to RM9 million.
He stressed that the fund was specifically for those who want to polish their skills and not to kick-start their ventures because “the fund acts as an assistance to push one to go further with one’s existing skills”.
He also mentioned that those in business or entrepreneurship are not eligible to apply for the fund.
