SIBU: Youth are urged to be more prominent, dynamic, proactive, and aspire to transcend local boundaries, especially in the digital world.
Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Michael Tiang Ming Tee said that the youth should always be prepared for social renewal in facing the increasingly challenging changes.
“The fact is, our youth are not only a very important asset to Sarawak, but they are also the future generation and heirs of our nation.
“Therefore, our youth need to be more prominent, dynamic, proactive, and aspire to transcend local boundaries, especially in this digital world,” he said in his opening speech at Program Jelajah Belia Sarawak 2023 @ Sibu here yesterday.
Tiang, who is also the Pelawan assemblyman, said that this was the 24th and 25th series of Program Jelajah Belia Sarawak held throughout the state.
He said the organising of this programme aimed to encourage local youth involvement in joint activities as well as to strengthen youth development efforts in line with the state government’s goal of producing competitive Sarawakian youth.
“Indirectly, this programme also fosters a sense of self-identity, responsibility, leadership, and volunteerism among the young people in the Sibu area,” he added.
He believed that the youth under the Pelawan and Nangka constituencies will seize this opportunity to share their opinions and voice their views and aspirations during the Youth Dialogue Session at the programme.
The programme was officiated by Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu representing the Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Also present was Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development cum Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, and others.
