Youth pleads guilty to theft, faces uncertainty

KUCHING : A local youth pleaded guilty before the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for stealing RM600 from her colleague at a petrol station in Jalan Sultan Tengah in November last year.

The accused, an 18 – year old female from Bintulu, pleaded guilty after being charged with theft under
Section 379 of the Penal Code that was read before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar.

According to the charge, the accused reportedly stole RM600 from her colleague around 10.35 pm on November 11 last year.

If convicted, the accused may face jail term up to seven years or a fine or both.

However, the court has set the date next month, February 15 to hear the social report of the youth offender.

The facts of the case revealed that the complainant lodged a police report after a check on closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage showed the teen taking the money which was kept in a white envelope concealed in a plastic at the cashier’s counter.

Prosecutor of the case was Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang while the accused was not represented by a counsel.
