SIBU: The Sibu Active Youth Space (SAYS) located at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase II here will be equipped with up to 800 mbps high speed internet facilities.
This was revealed by Education, Innovation and Talent Development Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee yesterday (Feb 9).
He said Telekom Malaysia is currently installing the Unify facility there.
“The skateplaza will also be equipped with free WIFI service in two weeks’ time.
“Apart from enjoying the multipurpose facilities at SAYS, youth can access the internet to build their knowledge which is what our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg wants as it is also part of the digital economy,” he said.
Dr Annuar added that the SAYS court is one of the various facilities to benefit the youth here, especially in relation to extreme sports involving skateboards, roller skates, scooters and BMX bikes.
He said currently, skateboard fans do not have a suitable place to pursue their hobby and if they were to play on the roadside, they could put themselves and other road users at risk.
“SAYS is the longest court in Sarawak — measuring 100 metres in length. The space will also have an open-air cafeteria soon where diners can enjoy a panoramic view of the Rajang River while having their meals.
“We also plan to boost SAYS as a venue for popular e-sports in the future,” said the Nangka assemblyman.
At the same time, Dr Annuar urged the youth to take good care of the SAYS facilities and to protect them from vandalism.
