KUCHING: Sarawak’s exploration in the new economies such as digital economy, hydrogen and carbon storage require the expertise of Sarawakians in the fields of science, technology and engineering.
Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said the younger generation should therefore master Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.
“This would ensure that job opportunities in the new economy are filled by local talents,” he said during the closing ceremony of SMK St Augustine Language Month 2023 in Betong recently.
The Layar assemblyman also stressed the importance of technology in the students’ learning process.
“To support this cause, I, through the Layar Constituency Education Development Committee, have contributed tablets to all students since they were in Form 4, empowering their learning journey leading up to the SPM examination.
“Furthermore, today, we have handed over tablets to six Form 4 classes in the school,” he said.
The event also saw Betong MP Dr Richard Rapu approving a grant of RM15,000 for the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) of SMK St. Augustine.
