SARIKEI: Every day, during the current fasting month of Ramadan, over 60 youths as young as 14 and as old as 45 years old are assembling as early as 3am at Masjid Ar Rahmah at Kampung Seberang Sarikei.

After that, they will march around the village and beat some empty oil drums while shouting “Sahur! Sahur”.

“Sahur” is an Islamic term referring to the meal consumed early in the morning by Muslims before fasting.

During the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset and “sahur” is the last meal they eat before fasting.

The special mission of the youths with the loud empty oil drums every morning at Kampung Seberang Sarikei is to wake up all the villagers so that they will have ample time to prepare for “sahur”.

Chairman of Masjid Ar Rahmah, Azman Ogeng, said the volunteers comprised youth entrepreneurs and committee members of the mosque.
