DARO: Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad has called on Sarawakians, particularly the younger generation, to prepare themselves by acquiring skills and technological knowledge to align with the government’s current workforce demands.

Speaking at the Labour Education Programme with the Community in Daro, held in conjunction with Labour Go Rural Area 5.0 at the Daro Community Hall, he noted the importance of technical education.

“The current workforce demands also emphasise knowledge and skills in technical education. Therefore, we need to seize this opportunity and fill these vacancies to reduce the reliance on outsiders to meet the job market demands here.”

Safiee praised the programme for raising awareness and providing valuable information to workers.

“This programme provides explanations regarding the welfare of workers involved in unfair treatment by employers and exposes them to ways of fighting for their rights according to existing ordinances.

“Additionally, those attending this programme also receive guidance and information to avoid becoming victims of ‘Job Scams’. Therefore, if uncertain about job offers, they can refer to the Sarawak Labour Department (JTK) to verify the existence of the company and job opportunities.”

Meanwhile, Sarawak Labour Department director Awang Raduan Awang Omar highlighted that the Labour Go Rural Area 5.0 programme is a long-term initiative aimed at bringing government services closer to the people, particularly under the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA).

“It aims to assist the local community and educate them about their rights as workers under national labour laws. In addition to labour talks, briefings on the functions of the department and agencies involved, MyFutureJobs registration will also be conducted.

“Furthermore, a walk-in interview session by the Social Security Organization (PERKESO) will be held at the Centexs Mukah Multipurpose Hall on Saturday (May 25).”
