SIBU: The entrance examination for the Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School (YSISS) is open to all students across Sarawak.

Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee encouraged primary school principals to ensure their students participate in the online assessment test for entry into YSISS.

“The assessment test is open to all students, but they must register or go through their school principals.

“That’s why I encourage principals to ensure their students take the test, as applications are through the principal, and once they complete the assessment, they will be screened for entry into the international school,” he said.

He made these remarks after officiating the 49th MSSR (Primary School Sports Council) Sibu City Zone Athletics Championship 2024 at Tun Zaidi Adruce Stadium on Tuesday (Oct 29).

When asked about the latest developments on the 2025 entrance assessment held on Oct 19, he mentioned he did not have data on the matter.

However, he clarified that the test is open to students throughout Sarawak seeking admission into the two YSISS schools in Kuching.

For the YSISS project in Sibu, expected to be completed by the end of this year, Dr Annuar said that the first intake cohort would begin in 2026.

“This means that Year Five students this year, who will be entering Year Six next year, will have the opportunity to receive education at the school as the first cohort,” he said.

In addition to the assessment test, YSISS entrance requirements include a minimum Band 5 in Classroom Assessment for Bahasa Melayu, English, Science, and Mathematics. Additionally, the student or at least one parent must be a Sarawak native or a permanent resident of Sarawak.

Touching on the importance of MSSR, he highlighted that it is a crucial programme for children’s health and social exposure.

“Through programmes like this, they can interact with the community, build self-confidence, and learn to socialise with people of different ethnicities,” he added.
