KAPIT: The federal government has pledged to assist in the development of the Mara Professional College as well as other infrastructure projects here.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said construction works on the college will commence this year.
“This also applies to the request of Works Minister and Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi to speed up the road construction from Nanga Semaram to Nanga Beguang, which will cost RM170 million. This means it (allocation) has been approved.
“Secondly, the road construction from Jalan Sungai Sut to Rumah Juntan at a cost of RM60 million, will also be carried out,” he said during the Gawai Dayak celebration held at Dewan Suarah here today (June 3).
In addition, Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister said the Sungai Amang Bridge to Rumah Richard will also be replaced at a cost of RM4.8 million.
“Lastly, the implementation of the Alternative Water Supply Scheme for Kapit Division will also be approved with a funding of RM60 million,” he said.
He said the Unity Government will continue to provide whatever project allocations that should be given to the state government.
Earlier, Nanta in his speech, called for the Mara Professional College project in Kapit to be implemented as quickly as possible.
“The said college (project) has been approved for a long time and the land acquisition has also been made. Now it is just awaiting construction,” he said.
Pointing out that Kapit is the only area without a higher education institution, he called for the speedy construction of the college.
“Actually, this (Mara Professional College project) was one of the agenda discussed during the special meeting of our National Action Council chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister Zahid himself and where Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was also present.
“As the Premier said, ‘Whatever the problem is, settle it’. This means that no can interfere with the implementation of the project,” he said.
