KUCHING: Singer Datuk Zainal Abidin who brought environmental consciousness to the fore with his hit green ballad ‘Hijau’ years ago has lost none of his convictions on the need to preserve Mother Earth.

And on Saturday he was due to perform at the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2024 for the first time, if anything, to renew his message through music.

In an interview session with the media, he said he admired the festival’s commitment to environmental sustainability particularly efforts in waste management and recycling.

“I have observed the festival’s impact for the past 20 years, waiting for the right moment when environmental measures were adequately addressed.

“Mu participation in the festival is driven not just by a desire to entertain but also to raise awareness about global environmental issues,” he said earlier on Saturday at Damai Beach Resort here.

Zainal uses his music as a vehicle to communicate important messages about humanitarian and environmental concerns, hoping to inspire action and dialogue among his audience.

“Through my music, I’m using my music as a vehicle to reach people to create awareness about the environment,” Zainal said.

He aimed to deliver a powerful performance that will leave the audience moved, engaged, and inspired to think critically about environmental conservation.

“Tonight’s show promises to be a memorable experience, blending cultural heritage with a passionate call for environmental stewardship.

“As I take the stage, people can expect a night filled with dance, emotion, and a powerful message about protecting our planet for future generations,” he added.

Zainal believes that music transcends language barriers and hopes to connect with the audience through his energetic and rhythmic performance.

He has long been an advocate for environmental conservation, thanks to “Hijau,” which addresses environmental issues.

The RWMF 2024 opened with a blast on Friday, setting the tone for a transformative celebration under this year’s theme, ‘Evolution’.

In its 27th edition, RWMF transcends its role as a music festival, offering an immersive experience that blends responsible tourism, cultural celebration, and environmental stewardship.
