KUCHING: Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir ended his two-day Semarak Kampus MADANI visit to higher learning institutions in Sarawak yesterday.
His last stop was a field visit to Kuching Polytechnic Sarawak (PKS) where he was welcomed by about 1,000 students and members of the local community.
In a statement, PKS said that the programme showcased research and innovation successes, entrepreneurship projects, and activities conducted by the polytechnics and community colleges in the Sarawak zone through the PolyCC Berambeh event.
“A total of 33 individuals shared their experiences, demonstrating the bead bracelet and kolo mee making processes learned through Lifelong Learning (PSH) courses.
“These short-term courses are offered by community colleges to the local community to ensure they acquire new skills that can be utilised to generate income,” it said.
PKS said the programme also showcased innovative products by students and staff such as fashion designs, IoT, and soap making from used oil.
Additionally, high-value commercial products such as pepper powder and fragrant oil produced by PolyCC alumni were also exhibited.
The programme was also attended by village chiefs, community leaders, and residents of Kampung Telaga Air, Kuching.
During the event, Zambry also had the opportunity to interact with residents and visited the student dormitory facilities.
The Semarak Kampus MADANI programme involves a series of visits to higher education institutions including public universities, private universities, polytechnics, and community colleges in 16 zones across the country.
