Zhang worked with China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1985. After that, he worked in the country’s embassies in Surinam, Japan and Singapore.
“I’m sure that with Zhang’s insight and devotion, he will contribute to the China-Sarawak cooperation,” said Consul General of China here, Fu Jijun during a Lunar New Year reception at Imperial Grand Ballroom on Sunday.
He introduced Zhang Yang as the new Deputy Consul General at the reception.
Meanwhile, Liu Dongyuan is leaving after serving as the Deputy Consul General of China for more than three years.
Fu said during her service, Liu had dedicated herself to almost all of the major occasions of China-Sarawak cooperation.
“She has told me that Sarawak is like her second home and it is difficult for her to say goodbye.
“In actual fact, we, at the consulate, feel the same way about her departure. We wish her all the best on her new posting in Kuala Lumpur,”
Also present at the reception was the Minister of Youth, Sports and Solidarity, Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong who represented Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.
In his speech read by Manyin, Johari thanked Liu for her contribution to the state and wished her well in her future undertakings.
“We hope that you will also keep Sarawak close to your heart and you are certainly most welcome to come back and visit us,” he added.
