KUALA LUMPUR: National men’s singles shuttler, Lee Zii Jia kicked off his campaign in the 2019 Indonesia Masters Badminton Tournament with a winning start at Istora Senayan in Jakarta, on Wednesday.
The unseeded Zii Jia who came from the qualifying round, pulled off a sensational 21-13 and 21-13 win over the third seed and world number seven, Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan in the first round match, according to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website;www.bwfworldtour.bwfbadminton.com.
He is the only Malaysian player left standing in the men’s singles after former national shuttler, Chong Wei Feng lost 12-21 and 8-21 to the eighth seed, K. Srikanth of India.
The same script also occurred in the men’s doubles event as Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi are the sole Malaysian survivors as other other pairs failed to progressed to the next round.
