BAU: Federal Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin visited Bau town as part of the Prihatin Visit Programme on Sunday (Apr 11).
She started off her visit by presenting a contribution of RM15, 000 to SJK Chung Hua Bau for the construction of the walkway rain canopy to connect the hall and the school.
Its chairman, Kuan Kim Tin, was present to receive the contribution on behalf of the school.
Zuraida then headed to Siti Cafe to attend an open dialogue with community leaders.
In the press conference which followed after, she said that there were several requests presented by Bau District officer Anielia Siam which includes the development of a Rural Growth Centre (RGC).
“I have asked her to also be on the lookout for places that can be upgraded such as food courts and tourist spots which can generate income and bring economic activities to the locals.
“In principle, I agree to approve the first RM3 million from the ministry’s allocation for works involving tourism, drain repairs and so on.
“Anielia and my special officer Voon Shiak Ni will then do a follow-up and see what we can further improve,” added Zuraida.
Meanwhile, Zuraida stated that now that the government has opened up the economic sector, efforts should be made to attract more visitors and boost economic activities, especially with the loss of jobs and income due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
She said that there were suggestions to convert the existing food court into a rumah asap (barbeque eatery).
“This will help the economy to move forward and we will continue to channel additional allocations,” said Zuraida.
